Travelling with Your Instrument: Mondomusica New York 2014 introduces topics for seminars relating to the music community

Mondomusica New York, the finest American exhibition for violin and string-instrument making, is much more than a trade show. Mondomusica New York is dedicated to sharing the latest issues and trends that are happening in the music community at present, targeting performers, string-instrument makers, members of the music industry, as well as music enthusiasts. The development of this year’s seminars and events will include relevant topics concerning the modern day musician, one discussion being on instrument travel.

A pressing issue that faces the music community today is the safety of transportation of instruments. Travelling alone can pose itself as a challenge, to many, but to musicians there are many additional factors involved with traveling with their musical instruments. There have been recent reports of musicians being forced to put their instruments through airport security scanners without their protective cases. When boarding flights, many are asked to take their instruments out of the cases and are expected to pay to check their empty cases. With the stringent rules that exist within the world’s airports, musicians often face uncertainty about whether or not they will be permitted to take their instruments on board. This topic will be discussed at Mondomusica New York 2014 by a panel of experts organized by Collin Gallaue, violinmaker, and Yung Chin, bow maker.

This seminar will be part of a larger series events offered to Mondomusica New York attendees.
